Dr. Ashar Afzal, MD is a dedicated specialist in the field of chronic pain management, regional anesthesia and innovative regenerative orthopedic medicine. With a deep commitment to improving patients’ quality of life, he employs advanced techniques including the use of orthobiologics such as super concentrated platelets (SCP). Along with SCP, we use derivatives such as bone marrow concentrate (BMC) to treat chronic and debilitating conditions such as arthritis.
Dr. Afzal’s journey in medicine began with the completion of his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree in 1993 from Allama Iqbal Medical College/Punjab University in Lahore, Pakistan. He pursued further specialization at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, completing his residency in anesthesiology in 2001, followed by a prestigious fellowship in pain medicine in 2002. Recognized for his expertise, he maintains his board certification in Pain Medicine from the American Board of Anesthesiology.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Dr. Afzal finds fulfillment in his role as a husband and father, residing in the Cedar Valley with his family. Outside the realm of medicine, he enjoys leisure activities such as golfing, swimming and the competitive spirit of squash.
